Roadtrip 2016 Fall: Vancouver - Yakima - Bend - John Day River - Port Orford - Florence - Seaside - Vancouver

Day 43 - Port Orford to Winchester Bay to Florence

Our last sunrise in Port Orford. The storm is clearing.

Rolling through Coos Bay - the weather doesn't seem to know what to do.

The General Jack D. Ripper Memorial Park. The General once famously remarked, "I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids." Really. Look it up.

Russ and Emma take a few moments to practise their footwork for an upcoming mixed pairs country two step competition.

Seems just 2 days ago it was risky picnic tables - and now this. What's with all the new dangers and annoyances?

The Coast Guard's Top Secret Dwarf Lighthouse Project.

Today's Rules and Regulations are harder than usual to read.

Oregon tourism is installing these brand new WAS devices. The "Weather Attracting Stick" is meant to increase dramatic cloud formation - making the skies more interesting to attract more tourists to the coast. They forgot that more clouds equals more rain too.

This is the Mark IV accidentally lost off the BC Coast in 1950. It washed up in Winchester Bay a few years back. They are still waiting for the Air Force to come and get it. Officially, the USAF doesn't have a missing nuke.

Not exactly the vessel you want for the open Pacific - how did this even get here?

Waiting for a mani - pedi.

Just doin' what birds usually do.

The Coast Guard's Top Secret experimental boat catapult.

It could all be yours in Winchester Bay.

We arrive at Hecata Beach in Florence just ahead of sunset, and head for the sand.

Which, of course, requires a game of ball. That's our house for the week on the right.

The sand here may be even better than Bandon's, the current World Benchmark for Beach Ball Sand.

Isolated showers.

Nuthin' like an evening on the beach - even in November.
